What type of fish would be good for a 38 gallon aquarium?

UC2007 wants to know:

I have tried african cichlids, but the tank was too small and they mostly just killed each other. I have the filter, heater, air pump, and everything i need, it has been running for a few days, temp at 78 F. I’m looking for some active fish that don’t get too large, maybe small enough so i can have 4-6 of them. I don’t want community fish like mollies or guppies. Any suggestions?

I like Parrot fish. They are a little aggressive so you can’t put guppies or neons in there but they are very intelligent looking and they learn that when you come to the tank you are going to feed them and they will swim up to meet you.

i have a 30 gallon and have a variety of fish …it just a community tank and i enjoy seeing the different fish some school, some swim near the top and some near the bottom…………they don’t have to be molliesand you can have more than 4 or 5 in a community tank…with the right kind of fish..and live plants and good filter..

Community fish like guppies or platties (they will breed and give birth to live babies as apposed to lay eggs) neon tetras, they are cool because they swim in a school usually 8-10 look amazing. I also like fish called silver dollars, and angel fish…all these fish get along well and go well with mollies too. You can even get some community “sharks”.
