What kind of fruits or vegetables can I feed my fish for vitamin C?

Poseidon wants to know:

I have mostly African Cichlids. I know you can give them oranges, lettuce, and cucumbers, but they are all messy. What else can I give them that will provide vitamin c and wont be messy?

maybe you should give them vitamin-C pills from your local pet shop or something, i wouldn’t want to risk giving them anything that may be possibly harmful..

there are certain like turtle pellets and fish flakes that have vitamin C.

you should probably try those out.

and they love the turtle pellets so dont worry about them.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen vitamin C tablets of some sort at pet stores, that would probably be the least messy of them all.

However, since I’ve never had to put oranges or lettuce or anything like that in my tanks, I don’t know in which way they are messy. In addition to tablets, I’ve also seen clips in pet stores that will hold vegetables and stuff in the water and keep them from sinking down to the bottom and floating away — would those make it less messy?

I have never heard such a thing!!! They live on algae in their wild home.

They do sell plant based fish foods. You can also find frozen kelp. Frozen chopped spinach will also do if it’s finely cut.
Be very careful not to over feed this stuff, or lettuce or anything else. All if it can foul the tank fast.

Oranges???? When and where do fish eat oranges in the wild? Besides they are loaded with acid. Come on!

Fish foods!!! Get some green plant flakes, some cichlid pellets. Some frozen brine shrimp, possibly frozen kelp.
    That should be plenty.
