ELLE(: wants to know:
I have a twenty gallon tank with two yellow labs (one is about 2 inches, the other is about 3), and I was thinking about adding another cichlid… What kind of cichlid would be good with my two labs? Thanks.

The best cichlid would be 2 more yellow labs.
That’s about all you can do - the tank is much too small for a mixed cichlid tank, and yellow labs are naturally grouping fish and shine best in numbers anyway.

The 4 ” adult size kind of limits what you can have in a 20g.
These are basically 55g “cichlid community” fish. They are not that aggressive as far as African Rifts go.
For ideas on on mixes for the 20g,you can look here…
Good luck

I’m not sure of the exact number of these fish to get because I gave up on cichlids ( went bankrupt :S ) but DO NOT GET TWO MORE LABS, since Labs are Monomorphic it is virtually impossible to tell the sex of these fish.
Get:
Pseudotropheus Acei
Labidochromis Hongi
Pseudotropheus Kenyi
Pseudotropheus Demasoni
Labidchromis caerules
Pseudotropheus Esterae
But return the fish as soon as you can because a 20g tank is way to small for African cichlids because they are extremely aggressive and get large ( 4-8″ ), get atleast a 55g if you want to keep these beasts.
Good luck!

Time to upgrade. You’ll enjoy african cichlids SOOO much more with a tank that is at least 4 feet long (or at least 50 gallons). You can actually start to pack them in if you filter it well and keep up on your water changes.
Best tankmates (when you upgrade) are P. acei, electric blues, peacocks
