chickiam24 wants to know:
We just purchased 3 African Cichlids (Socolofi) and have had Texas and Jewels in the past but we had to move so we just restarted. Are these more aggresive? We had a Giant Albino Gourami years ago and whould like another whould those fit in? If we find one, our previous was an albino and more like a pet than anything!
Thanks

African chichlids are very agressive the only other fish you can put them with is a pleco because they are armored catfish and they can have high p.h’s.
African chichlids need really high p.h’s ( with the exeption of rift lake chichlids exe. kribs and jewls) like 8.0-8.5. Gouramis like slightly acidic water like 6.9-7.1. Also when you do add more africans you have to add 3 or more at a time even if it is 10x bigger then the other because it will get beat up and die within a day ( this happened to me with 2 german reds and a small group of mbunas).
Hope this helps

African Cichlids are fiercely agrressive. I have one for over 8 years. He is a great fish, but he will tolerate no other fish in his tank..including another African Cichlid. The Gourami you have will surely be killed as the cichlids grow.

socolfish are very beautiful, and not as aggressive as many others
however, you can’t keep a gourami with them
i also don’t know what size your tank is, but if you have at least a 55 gallon tank, you can keep 2 more species with them
just make sure you introduce a whole group of 3-4 of them at one time
yellow labs would make a nice addition
however, there are other fish you could add like
buenos aires tetras(schooling fish (SF) at least 6)
serpae tetras(SF)
giant danios(SF)
bristlenose plecos (bottom feeders)
the fish mentioned can deal with the high pH and temperature those africans have to be
