It is probably nothing, just likes that spot.
What kind of fish is it and how big is the tank? Any tankmates?

What size tank is he in? And what species of african cichlid are you referring to? peacocks,mbunas,zebras

well he could be tired. fish get tired u know? also they are territorial. so maybe that is his resting spot.
