Will L wants to know:
hi,
hi,
i added a new 5 inch blue peacock to my tank. i made a new cave for him to establish his territory and he did. but he dug to deep and the cave wall collapsed. he has some broken scales close to his tail and is kind of looks like he was bleeding. he is eating although i don;t know if he has a loss in appetite since he is so new. the tank is heavily salted and is always. should i just leave it, will he heal? should i set up a hospital tank and treat?
thanks so much!

keep a very close eye on him and should he exhibit any signs of distress then yes the hospital tank should improve his chances.

Yes it’ll heal in no time, no worries. Africans by nature come under pecking order of fish, that is they keep fighting and picking on each other, to this nature has gifted them with quick healing mechanism when compared to other fishes. Scratched bodies, slightly toren fins, lost scales can recover pretty quickly, provided tank is clean and well filtered and I dont suggest any medication for that.
What you can do to avoid such injuries is you can remover all sharp edged rocks and marble chips that might injure them and replace them with natural looking round river rocks and sand that’ll also look biotopically correct.
And if the fish is eating well, then theres no problem at all and it’ll definitely survive.
