  2. JDB Says:

Put fish in smaller containers and then empty the tank.

Empty it 3/4 of the way and have a friend or 3 help carry it. So you can have 1 or 2 on each side.

Put each fish or two or all depending on their size in large jars, buckets, etc. with lids. Large zip locks double bagged if thats all you have. Fill these with the tank water.
Save the rest of the tank water in jugs, bottles, buckets, etc. Take it with you.
When you get them to the new home (as soon as possible after taking them out of their tank) set up the tank again using new gravel, the old will be dirty and easier to throw out.

Add the tank water you brought with you, release the fish back into the tank. Get the heater back on the tank if necessary. Start the filter.

If you need to add more water now, add start right to each gallon you add and check the ph of the new water against the old tank water. Adjust the new water before adding if necessary.

i keep a rubber maid which i can place a small filter in it if moving far hook it up to car lighter it’s better to leave at old house move your tank clean alittle spray off gravel. then use aquasafe and rub through gravel and slowly add water mixing it through and get to temp and filter cycleing. aquasafe will get your water ready in seconds and it’s the easiest way to move in a hurry if you can’t get water from pet store or don’t want to. then go home bag fish up putting alittle bit of stress coat in the bags tiny bit only then take them to new tank and set bag in tank until water adjust about 10/15 min then let the fish out if you live to far away you’ll have to rig rubber maid trick the more water you leave in it the more air the fish have so get a small little filter if you can.

About the only way to move the tank without removing the fish is to get a good heavy board to slide it onto. Any flexing of the tank can and most likely will result in the tank leaking. Your best bet is to get some zip-lock bags and bag them. I kept mine in a cooler to help prevent rapid water temp changes. Keep as much of the water and filter media as you can. Re-use all gravel and filter media so that you will not have to cycle your tank again.

Also, consider a much larger tank. The pleco (depending on type) can grow to about 2 foot and the other fish really need more room than they have in that tank=
