about 4-5 fish if its 5″

i dont know what those fish are, but i heard you should put about 1 inch of adult fish per gallon of water.

Since Lake Tanganyika has hundreds of different cichlid species, ranging in size from one of the world’s smallest cichlids (Neolamprologus multifasciatus, under 2 inches maximum size) to the perhaps the world’s largest cichlid (Boulengerochromis microlepis, about 30 inches adult size), it all depends on which species you want to keep.
In a 29-gallon tree, though, I would lean more toward the 2-inchers and away from the 30-inchers. You could keep 10 or 12 Neolamprologus multifasciatus, and some of their fry, in a 29-gallon tank with snail shells and sand on the bottom (they are shell dwellers).
