Nick wants to know:
right now i have 6 cichlids. the tanks been running for about 5 months. the fish are all about 2.5 inches long. i want more fish in the tank because it seems so empty. how big will they get and how many could i put in? the only filtration i have is the 60 gallon top fin filter that came with the tank.
i have a bubblebee cichlid, a blue one with balck stripes, a solid white albino, a yellowish orange one, an orange one and a greyish pinkish one with faint stripes. they are all africans and ive been told they will get to be 5 or 6 inches long.

You’re going to have to identify the fish before you know how big they get. They’ll all probably be between 4-7 inches each, so I’d say you’re at your stocking limit.

About 10, assuming that the types you have get 6″ long. Now if you have it very well airated you may put in more than that, perhaps 15-20. I have a 75 gallon tank with 15 various cichlids ranging from 4″-6″, 3 6″ plecos, and one small spotted catfish and they seem to have plenty of room, i never see them fight anyways. However, if you get more aggressive cichlids such as jack dempseys or convicts that number goes way down way fast, maybe 2 mated pairs in a 55 gallon tank.

It doesn’t mean a damn thing about size here ok unless you start talking about an Emperor cichlid or Wold or Jaguar cichlid really. For the most part, you have such a high number of possible combinations, it could go into the millions. It depends on the species then the size, and it depends on your male to female ratio’s. You have 6 cichlids, but what are they? No one can answer what you could put in or if you even have room now until you reveal what species you have now. how can anyone say a “cichlid” will get x number of inches without knowing the species? A Tangyangikan Shell dweller is pretty much adult size at 1.5 inches, and an Emperor Cichlid grows to 36 inches. You see what I am saying?
You might have South Americans in there now, which pretty much means you have no African options. There needs to be signficantly more added information for you to get any good answers.

Cichlids may grow from 2″ to 2 ft long. Some are peacefull, others are pscho axe murderers.
So it’s impossible to say from the info you have given.
If you have 6 small species then no problems with some more fish. But if you have 6 of something large and agressive, you have a problem already.

first it all depends on what kind of africans you have…then as soon as they get to breeding age you can only have 1 pair in there because your breeders will kill any other fish in their territory
