what kind of africans? i have south americans, but when they were ready to breed my female and male would chase eachother, and then they would spin around eachother and rub against eachother. also, my female had this whte thing drop down so im assuming it’s its breeding tube. so i dont know if this applies to both african and american, but yeah. also the male will also kinda have a breeding tube, but its more pointy and harder to see. but again, this is south americans although i heard that africans and south americans are pretty close in relation. (although south americans are better =] ) best of luck!
Mouth-brooding African cichlid mating occurs something like this: the male digs out a cave for the female and lures her in by doing this silly fin shaking dance. She lays her eggs in the nest and he fertilizes them. Then she picks up the eggs in her mouth and carries them until they hatch. Not all cichlids will dig but they will do the shaking dance.

I’m assuming you are talking about Mbuna’s.

Hope it helps.
