How do I start an aquarium?

Boooooing wants to know:

I have a 10 gallon tank……

Can I use tap water (filtered by expensive filters) and use chlorine remover drops and let it sit for 3 days or so before bringing fish home?

And what type of fish are the most interesting? I had African Cichlids before and they used to chase each other in circles and move rocks with their mouths. So cute!

if you let the water sit for a few days it should be just fine. chlorine will naturally come out of tap water if left out for a while. when i had a fishtank i had mollies and swordtails. they’re colorful and pretty easy to care for. i also got some tiny catfish that i thought were super cute. : )

so it looks like you know the cycling prosses dont for get to put 2-4 zebra danios in your tank to cycl your tank and befor you put cool fish in the tank let sit with zebras for like 2 weeks, then good fish would be, honey goramies, dwarf gouramies, harlequin rasboras, guppies, platys, swordtailes, sarpa tetra (a school of 3 or more) Black Skirt tetra (a school of 3 or more) you could get carnal tetras at leat 5 of them or neon tetras same thing though 5 or more, dont over stock they say 1in of fish per 2 gal. and you should get a arirated sponge filter and live plants after your tank is done cycling this stops any big flucuations from happing

You need to let a tank cycle for at least a week or two (twos better) before stocking it.
Check all your levels (pH, nitrates, ammonia etc) the last few days of cycling to make sure your levels are consistent and good for the type of fish you plan to get.
When adding fish, add only two to three at a time no more than once a week. This is crucial or the fish will get stressed and be more susceptible to disease.
But tap water is fine, its what we all use. You dont need water de-chlorinater if your letting it cycle properly because all chlorine will be out in about a day.
Do your research on the different care levels of fish, i recommend starting easy, and invest in a good heater for your tank, as many tropical fish like it a little warmer.
Guppies mollies and platys are good to start with, just get all male of female for starters as they breed like crazy and be aware that most females come from the store already pregnant.
    Hope this helps

u fill the bottom with gravel and the plants, rocks or drift wood u want but if u use drift wood let it soak in water for a bout a day or two then put it in fill the tank up with water hook up the filter, don’t forget to put water in the filter and start it let it run for 3 days then bring home your fish. you let the fish sit in the bag in the fish tank water to acclimate the fish and add a cup of water from your fish tank to the bag then release the fish this prevents them from having ick .

I have a 150 gallon tank full of african ciclids and they prefer warm water (76 degrees)and like hard water so no drift wood they like rocks. i hope this helps :) kaley

Use a chlorine remover you will need it when you have fish in the tank when doing water changes unless you are using well water.

If you have some patience look into fishless cycling. I’m “fishless cycling” my new tank. I always zebra cycled before but I thought I would do the “humane” cycle this time.

You also should get a bigger tank if you want African Chilid in your tank.

If using tap water you have to buy Tropical fish, leave the chlorine in the water, all you will need is the Stress Coat and Stress Zyhme add to your tank filled with water let it run for two days then take a sample to the Pet Shop and let them test it to make sure the water is fine and then you go from there.
