I saw how the People at Wal-mart fed ghost shrimp to their cichlids. Since the Walmart fish suck it only said Regular African Cichlid and Oscar. I am going to get them at Walmart instead. Since SA Cichlids and African cant be together, which ones should I get? What cichlids are compatible with Oscars that Won’t grow over 8 INches( I know oscars get huge though)

Ok, so a couple of weeks ago I set up my tank and got it running for about a week, checking the levels daily and adjusting as needed. I’m using Stress Coat, Stress Zyme, Microlift Nite Out II, and Microbelift Special Blend and to make the water brackish I used aquarium salt, all chemicals and salt as instructed by pet store. Then I introduced some baby African Cichlids, they survived a few days but as I kind of expected they died. I figured I didn’t have the tank running long enough. I called the pet store I got them from to get some advice because I am (wanting to be at least) a new cichlid owner. Everything they told me was pretty much what I already knew and they advised me to let the tank cycle for about another week. I did for a week and a half. So yesterday afternoon I went to the same pet store and got 4 baby african cichlids (my tank is 16 gallons by the way). They were probably maybe an inch if even. When I got home I set the bag in the tank floating and I checked the pet store’s water levels and specific gravity. The spec. grav. of their water was 1.009 and mine was 1.016 so I added a little of my water into the bag as I was told to do. I did a quick 25% water change to filter out some of the salt and get the spec. grav. down. I got it down to 1.011. I continued letting the fish acclimate adding a little more water every 10-15 minutes for about 45 minutes. 6 hours later 3 of them were dead. This morning the 4th one was dead. I just checked all my levels and here is what they are using the Mardel 5 in 1 test kit:
Spec. Grav. 1.011
Nitrates 20
Nitrites 0.5-1.0 (somewhere between there)
Total Hardness 250 about maybe a little more
Alkalinity 240 maybe a little more
pH 7.6
Ammonia 0.5

I know the ammonia probably isn’t good, but I’m not sure about the water hardness or alkalinity.
I will take any advice that anyone will give me! HELP!

I have a pair of tattooed Lipstick parrots and I have heard that they have to be crossed with another cichlid for them to hatch. I was wondering if anybody can tell me if this is true or not and if it is what kind of ciclids can put with them? Also, would African Ciclids be capable to go in the tank with them?

NOW…DONT GO SAYING OMG THAT TANKS TOO SMALL. I KNOW, I AM GOING TO GET A BIGGER AQUARIUM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I HAVE A 55 OR 60 GALLON AQUARIUM THAT IS FOR MY BIRTHDAY PRESENT AND WILL ARRIVE FOR ME IN 3-4 MONTHS.

I really like these fish, but for now until my 55 or 60 gallon arrives they are going to stay in the 29 gallon aquarium.

A worker at the shope has owned fish for a long time and owns an oscar with his huge african clawed frog and had no problems and also owns pleco and salvini and a few other kinds they all live together he had has them in the aquarium as young babies with the african clawed frog and NO problems.

I also own a big african clawed frog. And he has been with other fidh and only eats little mollies gupies. Never any fish and inch in a half or bigger like commets that are a bit bigger.

So im getting an aquarium and there are going to be plants not real cuz oscar dig em up. And a few logs for the salvini since sometimes they like to hide.

1.) Is this ok?…1 pleco, 1 oscar, 1 salvini, and my 7 yr old afr. claw frog….

2.) Now feeding wize, the oscar, salvini will eat anything and I am feeding my frog now shrimp pellets, I was goiing to feed all teh fish them, the pleco definalty likes them and salvinies eat them. I was also as a treat going to feed my fish feeders.
Will guppies be ok? or should i just use commets as a treat? I know guppies are better as producing a lot of babies??????
Of corse i am makeing sure they are healthy. And i was also going to put some lettuce i heard they can eat it.

I have a jewel cichlid and it looks like she is about to lay eggs. I don’t have any other jewel cichlids in that tank, but i do have other various types of African cichlids. If she does lay eggs will any of the other cichlids fertilize the eggs so there is babies?

I have two African Cichlids, one is orange and the other light blue. The orange cichlid has little black specks, they’re tiny, on his tail and side. He also has a lot of them on one side of his mouth, it looks like a splotch, but when you look closely you can see its a bunch of black specks. He didn’t have them a week ago, they just dort of showed up one day. Does anybody know what the little specks could be? Are they harmful? None of my other fish have them. Is there anything I can try to get rid of the spots?

My orange cichlid also has this white dot on its tail. It’s been there since I got it and I can never decied if it is normal or not. None of my other fish have that either.
What could these this be? Is there anything I can do about it?
