I currently have a 90 gal tank with 5 Discus and recently have lost my biggest one which was about 8 inches around. I am thinking about selling the rest and setting my tank for cichlids with all the holey rocks and such. My question I guess, are african cichlids hardier and easier to take care then discus?

well, if you are taking good care of discus, than african cichlids should be a walk in the park, assuming you are prepared to deal with agression. also, my sympathy for your lost discus, at 8″, it must have been an impressive and beautiful animal.

Discus are South American Cichlids, but it would depend on the species you choose as with Discus.
Six or two threes; either is a specialist fish.
